As part of the Energize Connecticut Center’s Family Night Series, students, grades K-8, and their parents are invited to explore the world of robotics and test their inventiveness with the FIRST® LEGO® League on Friday, September 15.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Energize Connecticut Center, 122 Universal Drive North, North Haven (next to Panera Bread in the Target Plaza). It is free of charge and open to the public.

FIRST® LEGO® League will provide two age-appropriate build projects customized for students of varied skill levels.

Throughout the evening’s activities, families will learn about the scientific method, and utilize their strategic thinking, teamwork and creativity skills to build an interactive LEGO robot that will tackle real-world, energy-related engineering challenges. As part of the process, guests will:

  •        Design the robot’s appearance
  •        Construct the body with motorized LEGOelements
  •        Program the robot’s commands and test its capabilities

FIRST, an organization that offers science and technology programs for young people, will also have an interactive robot on display for guests to engage with.

Additionally, children and their families can explore the Energize Connecticut Center, learn about their environmental impact on the world and identify creative solutions to help make a difference every day.

The Energize Connecticut Center’s Family Night Series is designed to provide entertainment for children of all ages and their families while simultaneously educating them on the impact our energy consumption has on the planet, and ways to be more energy efficient. The next event will be the Center’s 3rd Annual Family Science Day on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
