Lecture at 2 pm

OLD GREENWICH, CT - Conservation biologist and author Joe Roman will discuss the largest animals on earth, whales, on Sunday, May 1. The lecture, “Raising Whales: How the Recovery of Cetaceans Can Help Restore the Oceans,” will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center, Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich. Roman’s books, Whale, a cultural and population history of whales and whaling, as well as Listed: Dispatches from America’s Endangered Species Act, will be available for signing at the event by Diane’s Books.
Joe Roman is a research associate professor at the University of Vermont with interests in endangered species, biological invasions, and whale ecology. His science and nature writing has appeared in The New York Times, Slate, and Audubon, among others. His research has been covered by the BBC, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and media around the world. A former Fulbright scholar in Brazil, Joe is founder of the website Eat the Invaders.
The talk is part of the Fred Elser First Sunday Science at the Seaside Center series organized by the Bruce Museum and the Greenwich Shellfish Commission. The afternoon will also include fun, family activities and a live-animal marine tank for all ages from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
