At the Greenwich Board of Education meeting tonight, the Board voted to appoint Dr. Salvatore (Sal) J. Corda as Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2016. The contract term is for the 2016-2017 school year with flexibility should a new permanent superintendent be identified earlier than the end of the year. Dr. Corda has extensive experience as superintendent in both New York and Connecticut public school systems. He is currently consulting independently and for Cooperative Education Services (CES) in Trumbull, CT on leadership searches and development, systemic improvement and strategic planning. His most recent tenure as superintendent was with the Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk, CT for eight years (2001-2009.)

Board of Education Chair Laura Erickson said, “The Board is pleased to welcome Dr. Corda as Interim Superintendent. Dr. Corda is an experienced superintendent who will be able to lead the district during this time of transition by focusing on and continuing the work of the strategic plan.”

Dr. Corda said, “I am honored and delighted to be selected as the Interim Superintendent for the coming school year. I am committed to continuing the work of the District, building on the thoughtful, research based plan for systemic district improvement developed by Dr. McKersie and the District staff. The Board is committed to supporting and sustaining the work of the Strategic Plan, which will guide our efforts. I look forward to working with the entire Greenwich community in serving our students.”

Superintendent of Schools Bill McKersie announced his decision not to seek the renewal of his contract with the Greenwich Public Schools on April 22. His subsequent appointment as Superintendent of the Weston Public Schools was announced on May 6, 2016. Dr. McKersie’s tenure as the Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent will come to a close on June 30, 2016. Dr. Corda will be working with Dr. McKersie and administration throughout the month of June to ensure a smooth transition.

The Board’s search for a new superintendent is already underway. A Request For Proposals (RFP) has been issued for a search firm. The Board anticipates selecting a search firm by the end of June.
