At 8:30 AM North winds along the coast were sustained at 10 - 15 MPH in Southeastern CT and below 10 MPH across the rest of the state.  The National Hurricane Center has discontinued the Prototype Storm Surge Watch for the coast of Connecticut.

Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Connecticut coast east of New Haven.  At 8:00 AM the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone (PTC) Hermine was located at 37.9 N 68.3 W or approximately 295 Miles Southeast of the Eastern Tip of Long Island (see official forecast to the right).  PTC Hermine is moving to the north at 3 MPH and has maximum sustained winds of 70 MPH.  Satellite pictures of T.S. Hermine show  significant convection to the north of the center. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting that T.S. Hermine will remain a strong Post-Tropical Cyclone and slowly move to the Northwest during the next 24 hours.  Hermine is then forecast to turn to the north on Tuesday and to the Northeast  on Wednesday  moving out to sea southeast of Cape Cod on Thursday.

Based on the NHC forecast winds are expected to gradually increase today to 10 - 20 MPH by mid afternoon.  The winds are expected to increase  from the Northeast at 20 - 30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH by late this afternoon along the coast.   The winds are forecast to continue thru the night and into the day on Tuesday.   Total rainfall is forecast to range from none in the NW Hills up to an inch at the southeast coast.  Coastal towns can expect tides to remain approximately the same today as they observed overnight.  The next two high tides are shown in the table to the right.  The primary threat from Hermine still appears to be dangerous RIP currents caused by large ocean waves along our southeast coast.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to monitor the latest forecasts and will send out another update Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM or sooner if the track of Hermine changes.
