Discover Shellfishing First Sunday Science at the Seaside Center, Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich on November 6 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm

The Greenwich Shellfish Commission will kick off the local recreational shellfishing season at the Fred Elser First Sunday Science at the Seaside Center in Greenwich Point Park on Sunday, November 6, from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.

Greenwich Shellfish Commissioner Roger Bowgen will discuss a new weir project in nearby waters and the recent partnership between the Town of Greenwich and the University of Connecticut to provide science-based information on the ecology and natural resources of Greenwich and Long Island Sound. Visitors of all ages are welcome to enjoy family-oriented activities throughout the afternoon and learn how and when to safely and legally harvest clams, oysters and mussels from local waters. The activities include exploration of the marine touch tank, close-up looks at local mollusks, and demonstrations of shellfishing tools by members of the Greenwich Shellfish Commission.

Due to the tides, the program will be held indoors. The First Sunday Science program, co-sponsored by Bruce Museum, is free and will be held in the Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich. For information, contact Cynthia Ehlinger at cynthiae@brucemuseum.org or 203-413-6756 by November 4.
