Amelia Alfredo and her mentor, Morgan Held, working on homework and study skills.
Who, you ask, looks forward to Mondays? Morgan Held and fourth grader Amelia Alfredo, that’s who.
“I’m always excited to come home on Mondays!” Amelia exclaimed. That’s the day the two get together for their weekly session. “Morgan helps me with homework and also does fun stuff with me like cooking, baking and playing outside. Last week we made Nutella cookies!”
Morgan agrees saying, “I love Mondays too. Being a mentor has been such a great experience. I’ve made a special connection with Amelia and love helping her with projects. Amelia loves to bake so today we made corn muffins. It’s like having another sister.”
Role Model Mentors matches outstanding high school students with elementary and middle school students, based on shared interests and specific needs. In their weekly mentoring sessions, mentors offer younger kids a positive influence and a uniquely-tailored combination of activities. This might be study skills and sports, math practice and music practice or homework help combined with time for makers’ hobbies like robotics or art.
