Christmas in Leipzig
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church is delighted to announce its Christmas in Leipzig concert on the afternoon of Sunday, December 11.
This concert is the second in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church’s Bach@415 Concert Series for the 2016-2017 season, which under the creative leadership of J. Michael Roush, Director of Music.
Christmas in Leipzig is a collaboration between the St. Barnabas Choir and several members of TENET, a preeminent early music ensemble based in New York City, to present Christmas music in the context of a German Christmas in Bach’s hometown. A highlight will be the towering motet, Singet dem Herrn. The audience will also be encouraged to sing various well-known German carols throughout the program with the choir.
Tickets for the concert are $40 (free to children 12 and under) and can be purchased at the door or online.
The 2016-2017 Bach@415 concert series is graciously sponsored by Happiness is Catering and Horseneck Wines & Liquors, which will be hosting a short reception immediately following the concert so that guests can have the opportunity to meet the musicians and singers.
J. Michael Roush was appointed the Director of Music at St. Barnabas in 1979 after graduating from Juilliard. His long tenure has produced decades of remarkable concerts from large-scale pieces with orchestra to intimate a cappella works. In addition, he has performed solo organ concerts at many churches and halls in this country and Europe.
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, founded in 1958 in Greenwich, Connecticut, is an active, growing community that provides nurture, support, and guidance to enable all its members to deepen their faith and to carry out Christ’s work in the world.
