The American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Course makes learning fun and easy. Through classroom learning, videos, presentations and hands-on practice, you'll learn:
- Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
- Rescue skills - in the water and on land & learn professional lifeguard responsibilities
- First aid training and Professional Rescuer CPR and AED - to help you prepare for any emergency
Prerequisite:
- Minimum age of 15.
- Swim 550 yards continuously using each of the following strokes for at least 200 yards: front crawl, 200 yards; breaststroke with a pull, breath, kick and glide. The stroke(s) used for the remaining 150 yards are the participant's choice of either front crawl or breastroke.
- Swim 20 yards submerge to a minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
- Retrieve 3 dive rings placed in 7 feet of water and swim 5 yards to side of pool
- Tread water for 2 minutes, no hands
