The Silvermine Arts Center 2016 Faculty Exhibition Opens April 17th
Distinguished faculty members from the Silvermine School of Art will show new work in the 2016 Annual Faculty Exhibition opening Sunday, April 17th. Every style and discipline will be on display in the Silvermine Galleries. The opening reception on Sunday, April 17th, from 2:00 – 4:00pm is free and open to the public, and the exhibition will run through Friday, May 13th.
Among the artists with work in the 2016 exhibition are: Lisa Arnold of Branford; Andrew Davis of Bridgeport; Tom Brenner and Enid Hatton of Fairfield; Nomi Silverman and Dmitri Wright of Greenwich; Marta Kot of Milford; C.J. Guerin of New Canaan; David Ferreira of New Haven; Jon Puzzuoli of Norwalk; Dorie Petrochko of Oxford; Janice Mauro of Redding; Claire Watson Garcia of Ridgefield; Carey Parks Schwartz of Stamford; Bruce Dunbar and Shizue Pleasanton of Stratford; Martha Bloom, Wendy MacCordy, Karen Siegel and Steven Parton of Westport; David Dunlop, Viola Galetta, Nash Hyon, Natasha Karpinskaia, and Nancy McTague-Stock of Wilton.
Participating New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire faculty include: Stephanie Maddalena of Haverstraw, New York; Gary Speziale of Middle Village, New York; Inez Andrucyk of Mohegan Lake, New York; Alex MacFarlane of South Salem, New York; and Joy Raskin of Concord, New Hampshire.
The School of Art, founded in 1924, has consistently drawn faculty members who are known locally, regionally or nationally for mastery of their arts. The current faculty, many of whom are Silvermine Guild members, teach a wide array of approaches to painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking. Masters in the crafts of jewelry, silversmithing, metalwork and woodworking round out the offerings. Their work is a feast for the senses and shows the range of the work that students are exposed to in Silvermine’s art classes. The annual exhibition is a great introduction to the variety of courses and the many disciplines and styles at the Silvermine School of Art.
Silvermine Arts Center is one of the oldest artist communities in the United States. Its fiveacre campus in New Canaan, Connecticut, consists of a nationally renowned artist guild, an award-winning school of art offering classes for all ages, an arts and fine crafts shop, and a gallery offering over twenty contemporary and historic exhibitions annually. Silvermine is a non-profit organization that also offers an educational outreach program, Art Partners, and hosts lectures, performances, film screenings, and special events.
