Mompreneurs Focus Giving to Most Vulnerable in Community as Business Thrives
Tiny Tots Kids Consignment will host the Sale’s 2nd semi-annual Diaper Drive at Greenwich Catholic School from 7-10:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 to benefit Kids in Crisis. Thousands of brand new and gently used items for baby, toddler, kids and moms will be listed for 30-90% off retail throughout the event. The kids consignment sale will restock merchandise with luxury and mainstream items before the Diaper Drive following the Volunteer & Consigner sale on Tuesday, April 12th and New Mom sale on Wednesday, April 13th. Shoppers are required to bring an unopened box / bag of diapers or make a $10 donation for entry to the late night event.
Mary Slaugenhoup of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania co-founded Tiny Tots with sister, Annie Schreck of Greenwich, Connecticut six years ago in Stamford, Connecticut, since then the semi-annual event has exponentially grown in size and is outgrowing its current location. Slaugenhoup explained why Tiny Tots is now helping charitable organizations and increasing community involvement, “Since we’ve been able grow our event into one of the biggest in the region we feel it’s important to use our exposure to help others in the community and our shopper’s communities. We’ve always given consignors the option to donate unsold items but last year we launched our Diaper Drive and Mothers to Others (www.mothersforothers.org) was the beneficiary.”
Merchandise is restocked before the Diaper Drive to provide an extra incentive for shoppers who weren’t able to volunteer or consign but want access to best items. Luxury brands such as Jacadi, Baby & Co., Janie and Jack, Nordstrom, Burberry and Ralph Lauren will be mixed in with mainstream brands. A few items for shoppers to keep in mind are that all sales are final, bags are provided at the event and strollers are prohibited. In addition, shoppers can pay with cash, Visa and Mastercard. The event is five days in total but opens with a private sale exclusively for Volunteers and Consigners and continues the next day with another private sale for New Moms and Grandparents– mostly first time Tiny Tots shoppers.
On Saturday, April 16th at 2 p.m. the Tiny Tots Kids Consignment spring sale will conclude and leftover merchandise that was registered to be donated will also be available for Kids in Crisis. “We give Consigners the option, when registering, to discount their items by 50% or donate on the last day of our public sale, we can typically fill 2-3 large cargo vans with donations ranging from clothes, books, toys, crib bedding, baby bouncers, car seats, high chairs, kids potties and baths, shoes and maternity wear. The past few years our friends at the Deborah K. Fallacaro Pregnancy Center of Westerly in Rhode Island have picked up donations” explained Schreck.
Kids in Crisis, based in Cos Cob, is Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing temporary emergency shelter for children, newborn – 17 years old. Last year, Kids in Crisis provided services to 6,184 children and families and since its founding in 1978, Kids in Crisis has helped more than 132,000 Connecticut children and families. “What we need most are diapers, wipes, baby toiletries and new, unused baby and kids socks, underwear, clothing, pjs and footwear in all sizes” explains Kristen M. Tomasiewicz, Director, Community Services at Kids in Crisis.
